Adopt a pug

At CuppaPug Rescue, we do things differently. Our mission is to ensure every pug finds a safe, loving forever home. Whether surrendered due to unforeseen circumstances or rescued from difficult situations, each pug in our care is placed in a nurturing foster environment—spending four to eight weeks at our pug café. This unique approach allows us to assess their needs, provide them with love and stability, and carefully match them with the perfect family. During their stay, visitors can meet, bond with, and apply to adopt these wonderful dogs, giving them the second chance they deserve.

CuppaPug Rescue - Adoption Guide

Adopting a pug is a life-changing decision that requires careful consideration. Pugs are loving, loyal companions, but they also require time, financial commitment, patience, and a strong understanding of their unique needs. At CuppaPug Rescue, our goal is to ensure that every pug finds a safe, happy, and well-matched forever home. Our Unique Adoption Process We take a fresh and practical approach to pug rescue, welcoming adopters from all walks of life, including families with young children and homes without gardens. Each pug in our care is our own pug, removing your typical 'foster' placement and instead waiting for the best home to apply to give the pug the best second change.

This allows us to get to know them, their personality, character and assess their needs, provide them with love and stability, and carefully match them with the perfect family. During their stay, visitors can meet, bond with, and apply to adopt these wonderful dogs, giving them the second chance they deserve.

Step-by-Step Adoption Process

1. Visit CuppaPug To adopt, you must visit the café to meet the pug you are interested in. This allows us to learn more about you, observe interactions with the pug, and assess compatibility—especially if you have children or another dog.

2. Have you fallen in love?

During your sessions you'll be sent an email with the application form where you can take the opportunity to ask us any questions. The application allows us to get to know more about you to see if there is a good fit with a pug. We want to know how a pug will fit into your life, the changes you might need to make and what keeps you busy outside of pug life.

3. Application Submission

Once you have submitted your application, this will be reviewed by our team to either approve or feedback why you may not be suitable. Feedback will only be given if there is something where we believe changes could be made. If you fail to answer all questions we will not consider it a completed application.

4. Video Home Check

If your application is successful, we will conduct a video home check to ensure a safe and suitable environment for the pug. For example: If you do not have a garden, we will ask to see where you plan to walk and toilet the pug.

5. Approval for Adoption

If you pass the home check, you will be approved for adoption. If your application is successful but not for the pug you applied for,  it can be considered for another pug in our care. Remember - the pug goes to the best application based on it's needs.

6. Trial and Foster Period

○ The adoption begins with a 1 - 2 week home test to see how the pug settles.

○ If the initial period goes well, a three-month foster period follows. This allows time for full integration into your home and lifestyle. If it doesn’t work out, you may return the pug without any bias, helping us understand what didn’t work for you or the pug.

7. Final Adoption

After the three-month foster period, the pug officially becomes part of your family.

Important Considerations

● Renting a Property: If you rent, we require a copy of your lease and confirmation from your landlord or estate agent that you are allowed to keep dogs.

● Children and Other Pets: If you have children or another dog, they must meet the pug before adoption to ensure compatibility.

● Donation: A donation is asked between £500 - £1,000, depending on the pug’s age and health requirements. Some may already be neutered and simply need a new home. A pug in our care typically costs between £1,500 - £2,000 and in some cases, considerably more.

100% of the donation supports our rescue efforts.

Adopting a pug is a rewarding journey, and we are here to guide you every step of the way. Thank you for choosing to rescue and give these wonderful dogs a second chance at happiness!
